What we typically get asked
when cleaning pavement

Why pressure clean my pavement?

Over time, pavements accumulate dirt, mould, oil stains, and organic growth that not only look unsightly but can also become slippery and hazardous. Professional cleaning helps prevent long-term damage, improves the appearance of your property, and reduces safety risks — especially on driveways, footpaths, and public walkways.

What types of pavement can be pressure cleaned?

Most outdoor paving materials can be safely pressure cleaned, including:

  • Concrete
  • Brick pavers
  • Natural stone (e.g. limestone, sandstone, bluestone)
  • Exposed/honed aggregate
  • Stencilled or decorative concrete

Our professional cleaners will adjust the pressure and technique based on the type of surface to avoid damage.

Can pressure cleaning damage my pavement?

Yes – when not done correctly. A professional pressure cleaning service uses the right combination of pressure settings, nozzles, and cleaning techniques to safely clean without damaging your pavement. However, DIY pressure washers or inexperienced operators can can chip softer materials or strip away jointing sand between pavers.

Can you remove oil stains from pavement?

To an extent, yes.

Oil stains can often be significantly lightened or removed using specialised degreasers in combination with high-pressure cleaning. However, older or deeply embedded stains may leave a faint shadow. Regular cleaning helps prevent long-term staining.

Do I need to prepare anything before the cleaning?

Yes, some basic preparation helps ensure a smooth job. This includes:

  • Moving any vehicles, furniture, or items from the area
  • Securing pets
  • Ensuring access to an outdoor water tap
  • Closing nearby windows and doors to avoid water spray entering the house

Should I get my pavement sealed after cleaning?

Sealing is optional but highly recommended for porous surfaces like exposed aggregate, pavers, or natural stone. A sealer helps protect the pavement from staining, moisture damage, and mould regrowth, while also enhancing the surface’s colour and appearance. It makes future cleans easier and can extend the life of your paving.

How often should I pressure clean my pavement?

For most homes, once every 2 years is sufficient to keep the pavement looking fresh and safe. High-traffic areas, or properties in damp or tree-covered environments, may need more frequent attention — especially if moss or mould becomes an issue.

However, continual cleaning can be significantly prolonged if you opt to have your pavement sealed, saving you money in the long run.
